Diary Of A Mosquito

Today we are teaming up with Compassion International for World Malaria Day, to bring awareness to the fact that half of the world’s population, 3.3 billion people are at risk for malaria.

Ben and Simon got involved to help me create a Diary Of A Mosquito.

Some of my kids favorite picture books are the Diary Of A Worm, Diary Of A Fly and Diary Of A Spider.

diary of a worm, diary of a spider, diary of a fly, children's books, favorite picture books, world malaria day project

These books are hysterical takes on what life is like from the perspective of these small creatures. Fly tries to teach Worm to fly and Worm tries to teach Fly to dig in the ground. Fly’s father isn’t sure Fly should play at Spider’s house, because of the webs. Funny stuff.

So, in honor of World Malaria Day, here is our silly spin off on the Diary Of books:

Fish eat mosquitoes.  Apparently, really small fish.

Mosquitoes are actually considered to be the most dangerous animals in the world, because more deaths are associated with mosquitoes than any other living thing. Crazytown.

A group of mosquitoes got attacked by a frog at the pond.

bug fight by Ben

Ben decided that mosquitoes, bees and wasps are all bullies in the bug world.  Fights initiated by bullies are apparently as common in the bug world as they are in the human world.

The End.

Simon says this is the back cover of the book. I think it is Mosquito’s house.

According to the Gates Foundation, eradicating Malaria is totally withing the realm of possibility.  That’s kind of amazing.

    LOVE this post, Alison!

I vividly remember having to take malaria pills as a child when we lived in Suriname (in South America). They were the size of horse pills and had the absolute worst taste ever, and I remember my parents literally stuffing them down me daily during some sort of boat ride into the jungle. Crazy.

Anyway, suffice it to say that the effects of malaria made a big impact. Glad you are spreading the word.

What a creative idea! Once my little guy gets bigger, I’ll have to get him involved like this!

    • Alison says:

Thanks Hannah! I love it when it works out to involve others at my house. Sometimes it backfires and other times it seems to all come together. Notice there are no illustrations by my teens though. :)

  3. Yvonne Reynolds says:

I love this! So creative! Great way for your kids to be aware of the problem and the solution!

    Priceless! Love it!

    Very important it’s remember…
