Arkansas Hiking Trails: Tollantusky Trail
A couple of weekends ago we were looking for a day hike close to home and we stumbled upon the Tollantusky Trail near Conway, Arkansas.
The trailhead is at the Cadron Settlement Park, which is located on AR-319 W off of Highway 64. This park is also home to restored settlers’ cabin and is part of the Cherokee Trail of Tears.
The cabin overlooks the Arkansas River and is just opposite the trailhead.
The cabin was all locked up but I think it must be open in the summertime because there was a wheelchair ramp in the back. The kids climbed all over it looking for a way in.
This stone chimney reminds me of one near my grandparents’ old house near Clarksville. Their house was named Chimney Cliff after that old chimney.
Being winter, the trails were a little rough. Evidence of the recent ice storm was everywhere.
I do love how you can see through the trees on a winter hike. Everything feels so bare, but it seems like you can’t get lost.
Still, we managed to a lose our way a little.
We crossed trails with a couple of groups of mountain bikers several times. It seems like a great area for mountain biking for sure.
There were lots of great views of the river along the trail.
I love hiking and watching my kiddos enjoy the outdoors. It fills me up in a way I can’t even explain. It’s so much harder for me to get out in the winter, but I am so glad when we do!
Our littlest hiker is getting bigger and bigger. I will be a little sad when he gets so he doesn’t need a hand along the way.
