A Walk to the End of the World, Walks in Engelberg Switzerland

A Walk to the End of the World {Switzerland} (28/48)

The walk to the End of the World or to End der Welt was our last walk with our cousins before they left town.

It was a hot, sticky day in Engelberg, but the skies were clear and the views of the mountains unobstructed.

We walked from the village, past the Engelberg Abbey into the hills.

Past little lambs.

And through the woods.

Bonus: We found tiny little wild strawberries in the forest that were super sweet.

End der Welt refers to this curve in the mountains that rises up on one side of the valley. When you see the shape of these steep rocks, you can see where they got their name. It doesn’t seem like you could go any further in the world than those cliffs.

You can see it from far across the valley, which gives you the effect of walking towards it forever without ever feeling any closer to it.

The trail eventually takes a fairly steep turn up and you climb steadily, so that you are heading right up into the middle of the formation.

You could actually climb even further up than we went, but we were content to get to the top of where the river flows out of the mountains.

Here are the fellas at the end of the world.

There was actually a restaurant at the end of the world where we considered having lunch, but we settled on just a drink since we were all super hot and thirsty

Then after we walked back to Engelberg, we had one of our usual picnics in the park. Bliss.
