Taos Mountain Crepes and Coffee

With around 8 chairlifts (not including three beginner lifts), Taos Ski Valley is not a giant mountain, but there are still some great spots to stop in for a little mid-morning snack or a late afternoon coffee.

Growing up I never used to stop while skiing.  My dad is of the throw-a-smashed-pb&j-in-your-pocket-and-eat-it-on-the-lift school of thought when it comes to eating on the mountain.  We only skied for three days every year, so why would you spend any of those precious moments sitting in a lodge?

However, I am a little older (and slower) these days, so I can appreciate a stop now and then after a few runs or when the wind is blowing snow in my face.

Just above lifts 2 & 6 is a spot called Whistlestop that also has a little crepe stand out front. LOVE!

My pal Rhonda and I stopped in for lunch one day at this mountain creperie.  I had the Eden and she had the special of the day (plus her own requests added in!).

Then the next day we went back for sweet crepes.

I almost always ran into to someone when I went in to Whistlestop, which was great since it’s easy to get separated from your ski buddies on the mountain. And cell service was a little sketchy.

My other favorite stop is the coffee stand at the bottom of lift 4.  There is an identical one at the base of the mountain, but somehow the coffee tastes better sitting outside this little coffee hut.

Again, this was a great place to watch for some familiar faces as folks ski past you to the lift.

We saw these guys come down after hiking to the ridge.

Plus there are beach chairs!

For the most part, I still ate my lunch in the condo or out of a sack, but it’s fun to stop for a treat every now and then.
