Homemade Treats = Perfect Gifts

12 Homemade Treats, Christmas Cookies, Holiday Baking

12 Homemade Treats for the Holidays! If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you might have heard me engaging in battle with my current nemesis, Tiny Oven. I have admitted Tiny Oven is suffering mostly in my eyes from an unfair comparison to Dream Oven, my industrial wonder from Christmas Past. One of the many facets of Tiny Oven’s personality, apart from a propensity to burn everything, is that he is not a multi-tasker. He just does not like to take on multiple projects at one time. Or multiple baking trays. If you are satisfied with cooking one small … Continue reading

In The Pipeline: Christmas Links

In The Pipeline, Little Advent Tealights, Silver Branches

Last weekend, Taido and I went downtown by ourselves and we walked up and down Union Street and did just a tiny bit of shopping. Mostly we just enjoyed looking at the lights that are making Aberdeen’s city center shine so bright! LOVE! Then we went to a pub, where I had an ale that was infused with heather (so yummy) and we met some super kind Scottish folk who told us all about Hogmanay (New Year’s) in Stonehaven. (We’re going!) Also, they tried to guess where we were from because of our accents and they couldn’t! Their three tries … Continue reading

I made a pan of gingerbread on our first snow day at home and we ate it so fast that I decided to make another one the next day. It was gone even quicker than the first one. Inspired Christmas, Blurred Christmas Lights, Joy

I have a little Merry Christmas Eve gift for ya! We participated in the Joy Project again this year, which made us laugh a lot throughout December. For me, the laughing and dancing together as a family is the value of getting out and bringing the joy! We surprised people with our joyful flash mob dance in many different places around Little Rock, but Taido caught us on video at the mall. I say us, but mostly he caught Simon and Campbell. I promise you I will never get tired of watching these guys do this dance! Hope you enjoy … Continue reading

Inspired Christmas

Inspired Christmas, Blurred Christmas Lights, Joy

I’ve been fighting the crazy Christmas machine this week.  Not the one that jumps out of advertisements.  The one that lives inside my head.  It tells me that I’ll never ever get away from being in bondage to the Christmas frenzy, no matter what I do. There are two current lines of thought in my brain about choosing to not do presents this year, neither of them helpful. First one: Your children are going to hate you one day for this…just give in.  Why is everyone is asking what they want Santa to bring them, even the dental hygienist, for … Continue reading

the conversation i’ve been avoiding

Me: Hey guys, I’ve been meaning to talk to you all about Christmas this year. Kids: What about Christmas? Me: Well, we’re probably going to do it a little differently this year.  This summer on our trip traveling around the country, we spent a lot of money.  And… Interrupted by Mary Polly: So this year instead of getting three presents like usual, we’re only going to get one present.  That’s ok.  All I want is… Me: No, um, actually, we are… Interrupted by Cole: We’re not getting any presents? Ben: silent, eyes tearing over Me:  Well, instead of presents, Daddy … Continue reading
