Snapshots of Edinburgh, Day Trips, Scotland

Happy Friday! I hope you’ve had a great week.

I had coffee with strangers no less than THREE TIMES this week. Y’all, that is a really lot of getting out of the house and chitty chatting for this introvert. I feel certain I will make up for it by not meeting anyone new for a while.

Except for next week when I fly to London to meet a team of folks I’m going to get to work with some this year! WHAT? I know, I’m totally shocked myself.

But don’t you worry, while I am there, I will totally go for a walk.

Anyhow, here are some stories from the interwebs that I’m loving this week:

A story about North Carolina and Bluegrass Music. I love the South, so I particularly enjoyed reading a Londoner’s take on the scene in NC.

A story about a train’s passing.

A story about some wild women in Alaska.

A story about writing (and changing) your own story. h/t Mike Sowden

I might opt out of the new releases and return to this movie list to make a viewing choice for the weekend.

This excellent Scotland itinerary is in my neck of the woods!

Hello gorgeous Insta-Chicago.

If you run a business or a blog and you’re struggling with Facebook’s choice to constantly ignore everything you post, you might find this extremely helpful. Or even freeing.

Compassion International is my favorite charity and they will be telling stories from Uganda next week, so I plan to follow along. In 2014, they have already addressed Child Trafficking and Child Marriage.

I fell into a rabbit hole yesterday and did not come up until I had finished this wonderful novel. If you don’t have plans for the weekend, UM, YOU’RE WELCOME!

If you go for a walk this weekend, don’t forget to share it with me!! #48walks on Twitter, Instagram or (evil) Facebook.

Keep on walking!

PS The above photo is a close up of the wall that you walk by when you emerge from the train station in Edinburgh. In forty years, I will still remember the feeling of walking up from the train station along this wall and seeing the gorgeous capital of Scotland.

  1. Love what’s in the pipeline at Chino House – you know Alison, coffee with strangers 3x in a week is awesome. I’m gregarious and don’t achieve that so I’m taking inspiration from you and heading out now to get a fresh cup of Joe and see if I can meet a stranger

    1. I’m super impressed Maria! I might should have mentioned that they were all prearranged via email/twitter/facebook/mutual friends, and also I drank tea at two of them. 🙂

  2. Hi there! Thanks for linking to my Chicago IG post. 🙂

    1. absolutely! I LOVED your photos! 🙂

  3. That’s awesome that you won! “One of the brightest bloggers!” Look how The Lord blessed you when you finally called yourself a writer! Have fun!

  4. Congrats on the First Choice blogger! Compassion Int’l is one of my favorite charities too.

Regarding the Facebook advertising, I just read that FB is like an epidemic that will probably die out in a few years. Most young people 18-24 don’t even use it anymore. I recently went through and cleaned out my FB so I only see REAL people that I know instead of news sources. So maybe the trend is moving toward using twitter.

Thanks for all the great links!

    1. We can only hope!! I would LOVE for FB to suffer a little loss. 🙂

  5. Thanks so much Shana! I get to take Simon along since he can miss school, so I’m super excited!! 🙂
