A Walk to Ristis, Engelberg Walks Ristis, Switzerland

A Walk to Ristis {Switzerland} (31/48)

After hiking so many trails right from our front door, you would think we would have run out of walks to do in Engelberg, but Taido always managed to find us another one.

Sometimes they would begin the same way, with a steep hike up the town stairs and a view overlooking the village, but soon enough we would be in new territory.

Finding things we had not before seen.

Including wild raspberries.

Inevitably, all hikes led up, so the views of the town below got further and further away.

Then the town would disappear altogether as we climbed over a hill and into another valley.

This hike to Ristis, where there was a restaurant, an alpine slide and a playground, was all uphill.

This big “owl’s nest” was part of the playground and it was eerily high up off the ground, but seemed safe enough.

The hike down from Ristis took us through several farms and cow fields. I love all the Swiss chalets.

This one was particularly lovely to me.

With all the old cow bells stretched across the front. So fun.

I see pictures of these houses so high up in the mountains all the time and I cannot believe they are real. In person, they are no less amazing. Some of them have no road access and so everything in them has to be carried up from somewhere.

It is a different kind of life for sure. Peaceful. Simple. And probably full of hard work.

IMG_2356

It’s always so great to get up so high.

And then it is lovely to go back down again.

Ahh, Engelberg. So many gorgeous walks.
