Y’all! Last Saturday I got to do the Color Me Rad 5K in Little Rock and it was SO MUCH FUN! I have never done a 5K before. Or any kind of K. In fact, if you have one of those stickers on the back of your car listing how many miles you ran in a marathon or a half marathon or a tri-something, well, hats off to you, but I have probably sneered at it. Just a tiny little, silent sneer. Because I seriously hate any kind of exercise that involves things bouncing or jiggling. If it is not … Continue reading
Since this track played nonstop at the Chino House a couple of years ago, it will forever play in my head when someone says SUMMERTIME! Go ahead. Listen. Enjoy. We sure are. We’re spending mornings here, there and everywhere, but afternoons we tend to end up at the pool, whether we planned to or not. At this point in the summer, if someone asks, Can we go to the pool? I think, Why not? And since we may not see another spicy hot Arkansas summer for some time, it seems like we should soak every minute we can, right? I … Continue reading
If it seems like this Seven Project is lasting forever, well, that would be because… it is. Seriously, last month was Media, and I still haven’t caught up on all the things I missed. Of course, it’s possible that if I am trying to cram all the information back into my life after the screen time break, I might have missed the point of the pause. However, I can say this with confidence: All the things people say about fasting from media are true. You have more time for people and things that really matter. Less distractions = more productivity. … Continue reading
Are you making your summer travel plans yet?
In the Beach vs. Mountains scenario, mountains definitely win at the Chino House. Continue reading
When the temperatures warm up, the bugs come out to play, but we still want to be outside! Solution: Homemade Insect Repellent! When I was out in the garden last week, I tried some homemade insect repellent that my friend, Sandy, had made. I loved the way it smelled, so I asked her for the recipe and made some for my family. Turns out, it is super easy to make your own all natural homemade insect repellent! Try it! Sandy used olive oil in hers, but I used soy oil because I am taking my bottle with me to learn … Continue reading
Happy Birthday Taido!! You make my heart beat faster!
Sometimes with all the hikes, bike rides and adventures we have on our camping vacations, I overlook that one of the very best parts of camping is just being there. Sharing coffee and hot chocolate on a cold mountain morning. Sitting around in our chairs telling stories. Laughing at Grandpapa’s jokes. Watching Taido fix bikes. Doing camp dishes in bright tubs. Reading a book. Playing cards or Settlers of Catan. Letting the cool breeze from the river blow on my face. Wondering at how the kids still have energy to play after hiking all day. Throwing rocks. Building forts and … Continue reading
I hope you had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Ours was full of food, friends and squeezing in those last summer memories. Labor Day officially marks the end of summer for me. Even though we hit 100 degrees yesterday and we have not yet seen the end of the three digit temperatures in Little Rock, I feel like it’s time for fall. Here in the deep south, fall might have to be just an autumn colored airy dress for a little while. We’ve been trying a new chore system this month that involves our kids more in the cooking. … Continue reading
I am linking up with Lindsey today for What I Wore Wednesday, Conference Style Edition. Most of these pictures are from the Arkansas Women Blogger Conference. The Ozark Folk Center was a fun setting for photos. Whitney and I love to plan our clothes for a getaway, and she took all of these pictures for me while we were there. Photos by Whitney Loibner I picked up these white pants on sale at The Loft recently and I have loved them! And this striped shirt was from the sale table at Sam’s Club last week for $4.91. … Continue reading
Oh Be Joyful. That’s the name of the valley we camped in near Crested Butte, Colorado. We’ve camped here several times before, so it was all shouts of joy in the van when we decided to return there for the last leg of our summer vacation. My parents met us there and the kids were very happy to see them. Even though we live in the same town, it is a special treat to go on vacation and have a little uninterrupted time with the grandparents. We also met up with our friend Jermaine, who we’ve known since we … Continue reading
