Y’all! Last Saturday I got to do the Color Me Rad 5K in Little Rock and it was SO MUCH FUN! I have never done a 5K before. Or any kind of K. In fact, if you have one of those stickers on the back of your car listing how many miles you ran in a marathon or a half marathon or a tri-something, well, hats off to you, but I have probably sneered at it. Since this track played nonstop at the Chino House a couple of years ago, it will forever play in my head when someone says SUMMERTIME! Go ahead.  Listen. Enjoy. We sure are. When the temperatures warm up, the bugs come out to play, but we still want to be outside!  Solution: Homemade Insect Repellent! When I was out in the garden last week, I tried some homemade insect repellent that my friend, Sandy, had made.  I loved the way it smelled, so I asked her for the recipe and made some for my family. Sometimes with all the hikes, bike rides and adventures we have on our camping vacations, I overlook that one of the very best parts of camping is just being there. Sharing coffee and hot chocolate on a cold mountain morning. Sitting around in our chairs telling stories. Laughing at Grandpapa’s jokes. Watching Taido fix bikes. Doing camp dishes in bright tubs.   I hope you had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Ours was full of food, friends and squeezing in those last summer memories. Labor Day officially marks the end of summer for me.  Even though we hit 100 degrees yesterday and we have not yet seen the end of the three digit temperatures in Little Rock, I feel like it’s time for fall. Oh Be Joyful

Oh Be Joyful. That’s the name of the valley we camped in near Crested Butte, Colorado. We’ve camped here several times before, so it was all shouts of joy in the van when we decided to return there for the last leg of our summer vacation.   My parents met us there and the kids were very happy to see them.
