It’s Ten Dollar Tuesday, a new Chino House feature where we give $10 away to a charity.
This week, Simon and I got to spend our money and give it away at Walmart as part of an effort with Champions for Kids and Colgate to help kids in Central Arkansas with dental hygiene.
For the month of March in Central Arkansas, you can pick up Colgate children’s toothbrushes and toothpaste at your local Walmart and drop them in the donation bins where they will be picked up and distributed at area schools by school nurses.
Plus, Colgate is going to match all the donations so my $10 in dental care will be doubled! (Cheers to wise investing of charitable giving!)
Simon chose his favorites and then we headed to the check out to buy and donate them.
I love a community project that is easy to involve my kids in, because I am trying hard to raise them to be compassionate, empathetic individuals in this crazy world.
Shopping with my little guy for toothbrushes was super easy!
Simon knows that everyone needs to brush their teeth! (Even though we sometimes forget!)
So I asked him,
How do you brush your teeth if you don’t even have a toothbrush or toothpaste?
Kinda hard, huh?
Should we get some for kids who don’t have any?
Sidenote: We also talked about how in prison camps in North Korea, no one has a toothbrush or even underwear. So in addition to being hungry all the time, prisoners are more likely to have rotting teeth and other illnesses.
Aren’t we lucky in America that we can have toothbrushes (and food)?
And isn’t it wonderful that we have enough money to give some away?
Simon, do you think you can find the bin to give the toothbrushes away?
Heck yes! Anyone can find them. They are placed all along the front of the store!
So take your kiddos (or grandkiddos or just yourself) and go donate some dental care. And next time you brush your teeth, say a little prayer of thanks for those pearly whites and for the means to take care of them.
